Usability engineering describes processes, design rules or standards that ensure the usability of a system. This includes the so-called user-centered design process, which specifies several steps or design activities that serve to develop a user-friendly system. The human being as user is in the foreground of the development.
It starts with understanding and describing the context of use. In usability engineering, there are various methods that can be helpful here. For example, interviews can be conducted with real users or personas can be developed. These methods have the goal to derive user requirements for the system. To specify these requirements, user stories can be used, among other things. User stories describe in a few words a possible experience of the user with the application.
Usability engineering also deals with the actual design of the application, which is based on the previously developed requirements. Various methods can also be used for this, such as sketches on paper, digital screen design or clickable prototypes. Once a design has been developed, evaluation follows. Here, testing can be done either with potential users or with UX experts. In both cases, there are different ways to approach the evaluation.

Satisfaction is described in terms of usability as freedom from impairments and positive attitudes toward the use of the product.
User experience extends the concept of usability. Here, the user perspective is emphasized and emotional and aesthetic factors are more strongly included. User experience describes the perception and reaction of a person resulting from the actual and/or expected use of a product, system or service. User experience is not only about the mere achievement of a goal, but rather about the experiences that users have before, during and after using the product.
User experience manages to arouse emotions in users. For this reason, the user experience is a decisive factor in whether users associate positive feelings such as fun and joy with the product and whether they would like to use the product again in the future. The success of a digital product is therefore strongly linked to the implementation of a holistic user experience.
