Rosenheim is an independent city in Bavaria and is located in the Alpine foothills. As early as the Middle Ages, Rosenheim was known as a transportation hub and economic center. Over time, Rosenheim developed from a salt and railway town into today’s hub for the wood industry and university of applied sciences. The University of Applied Sciences Rosenheim is particularly known for its Institute of Wood Technology and Plastics Engineering as well as the State University of Applied Sciences for Wood Technology. In doing so, Rosenheim continues its centuries-old tradition as a center of Upper Bavarian timber trading, timber production, and timber processing. Anyone wishing to learn more about the history of Rosenheim can visit the Municipal Museum, housed in the Mittertor since 1885. The museum contains an extensive collection on the cultural history of the city and the district of Rosenheim, ranging from prehistory and early history to the Roman era and into the 20th century.
