Human Machine Interface, HMI for short, refers to the part of the machine with which humans can interact. HMIs have existed in this sense for a long time. A steering wheel can also be called a Human Machine Interface, since it is a part of the car with which the driver can interact and thus control the car.
In the industrial environment, HMIs usually take the form of screens that are integrated into the machine or system, but can also function as free-standing devices such as tablets. The user can control and monitor the machine via the HMI. In order to make operation particularly user-friendly, great importance is attached to efficient HMI design.
HMI's are becoming more and more important for the industry, as work can be done more effectively, thus also increasing productivity.
