As last year, we were again represented with our own technical paper on the topic of
"Digitization of design in special mechanical engineering - A field report on
user-centered design & usability evaluation of an individual solution".
Digitization in mechanical engineering offers great potential. Especially in the design
process, processes can be made more efficient through digitization. Our contribution
offered an insight into the development of an individual solution for change
documentation and data exchange - especially with regard to user-centric design. The
results of the methodical procedure with target group analysis, prototypical
implementation as well as subsequent usability evaluation were presented and the
insights into the methodology gained from the practical application were
highlighted.
The keywords Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) as well as Mixed Reality (MR)
were addressed in many contributions in different ways. Other contributions ranged from
tactile feedback systems on the skin to the question: What comes next - Are we stuck in
the age of smartphones or are we evolving further towards gesture-based communication
without mobile devices? Digitization in healthcare was also a big focus at this year's
Mensch und Computer 2019. A playful VR application is used to encourage children with
infantile cerebral palsy to exercise regularly, which is intended to increase their
ability to move. Important components of the game are on the one hand the promotion of
motivation and on the other hand the avoidance of frustration.
Next year, Mensch und Computer will be held for the 20th time and will take place in
Magdeburg. We are already looking forward to the versatile contributions from the world
of human-computer interaction.
