The increasing degree of digitization in all business areas and industries currently represents the greatest challenge in the everyday life of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and businesses. In order to remain competitive in the face of constant competition, companies must not close their minds to the digital transformation.
The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) wants to offer companies in the retail, trade and service sectors the support they need to digitize their business processes and has therefore launched the nationwide "go-digital" funding program.
The funding, which has been in place since July 2017, is made up of various modules designed to facilitate the concrete implementation of aid measures:
This module covers the optimization of the company's digital presence. This includes the development of a professional website, the introduction of an online store, and the development of a company-specific online marketing strategy with the aim of opening up new markets and customer groups.
This module covers the introduction of software solutions for the secure handling of processes within the company and between the company and its customers, with the aim of achieving end-to-end digitization of all workflows.
This module includes the analysis of the IT security level within the company and the development and establishment of measures to increase security with the aim of minimizing economic damage and risks from cybercrime.
Consultancy is provided to companies in the commercial sector, including the skilled trades, with technological potential. The BMWi has also established some conditions that these companies must meet if they want to become part of the funding program:
Funding is thus approved according to clear criteria, which can also apply to start-ups, provided that there is a "significant business operation with sufficient sales".
