The globally operating, medium-sized company mimatic produces CNC precision standard and special tools for the automotive, mechanical engineering, aircraft and woodworking industries. The products are mostly used for the production of large series and enable complete machining of complex workpieces. The use of the latest technologies is given high priority at mimatic.
With eltimon (electronic live tool integrated monitoring), a further step was taken in the direction of Industry 4.0. The product enables the digitalization of live tools, angle heads in machining centers and driven tools (AGW) in CNC lathes. Via sensors, eltimon records states of a tool gear, processes the data into useful information and stores it on an NFC chip. For users, the fully automatic data acquisition without the involvement of people and the individual readout intervals for data should be emphasized. The optimization of processes is global and cross-plant.
In addition to a customer app for reading out the data and a cloud solution, an app was also implemented for the initial writing of the chips in assembly with a connection to the ERP system.
Application users gain access to tool data, real-time analytics, current conditions and trends, decision support and reminders through the app and cloud. These services increase the service life of the live tools. In addition, material consumption and scrap are minimized. With eltimon, money, time, energy and material can be efficiently saved in production and downtimes can be reduced.
The eltimon system consisting of cloud service, preventive maintenance, augmented operator, edge computing and intelligent sensor technology has been in use worldwide since 2016. Reference customers such as Continental, BMW, Schäffler and Siemens have recognized the importance of the system and equipped mimatic live tools with eltimon.
